Director of the Library?: Ágnes Jakabné Csizmár
The József Attila Library has been waiting for its readers since 1971 in the building opposite the main entrance of the county hospital. The library, which operates on an area of 600 square meters, primarily serves the residents and workers of the Szentpéteri gate, as well as the inhabitants of the settlements surrounding the city from the north.
The collection of more than 70,000 documents is very diverse?: It contains literature, educational works, children's and youth literature.
It is also possible to read and rent newspapers and periodicals.
The representative art collection includes colourful albums, monographs, encyclopedias, aesthetic manuals, material ethnography, book art, writing history, photography, reproductions, art students.
It regularly hosts exhibitions, also for amateur artists.
The library provides a door-to-door service for residents of two elderly homes who are visited once a month. They provide assistance to the elderly, the sick and the disabled by fulfilling their specific requests and offer them a selection of library documents.
About our eponym
Attila József is bound to Miskolc by a strong thread: In mid-June 1933, the Writers' Economic Association participated in the Miskolc Writer's Week at the Palace Hotel. That's when he met Martha Márton art historian. In Lillafüred, under the influence of the new acquaintance, he wrote Ode's poem.
In front of the Palace Hotel in Lillafüred there is a memorial plaque, and in the hanging garden, where the Szinva stream runs away, there is a statue of Attila Éva József Varga. The full-length statue was erected on the 100th anniversary of the birth of the poet and inaugurated on 10 April 2005. Since 1964 we have been celebrating the Day of Hungarian Poetry, which is Attila József's birthday. On the 11th of April, the community of Miskolc - organized by our library - traditionally celebrates in Lillafüred, at the József Attila memorial sites.
The Attila József Portrait Wine in the library is the work of the sculptor Mária Sz. Nagy, who was inaugurated in 2005.

READING POINT RECOMMENDATION
I don't have time to read! Our library has joined the online challenge launched by ÁGNES FREEDOM. ?Objective: One Book a Month! This can be done with work, school, university, children, and all sorts of other things to do, and so it is not worth the excuse "I have no time to read."
From the publications of our library we offer a recommendation on a related topic, which is published on the first day of each month.
