Director of the Library?: Mrs. Szilvia Dávid Szekeres
The legal title of the Pet?fi Sándor Library was established in 1954, serving the library supply of the Diósgy?ri district. He worked for a while in the building of the former district council, then in the early 1960s he moved to the new operating house of the district. The library took the name of the poet Sándor Pet?fi in 1973 and moved to its current location in 1977: the late Baroque-style monumental building built in 1758 near the castle.
In the former prefect's office, in a beautifully renovated environment, on two levels, over 50,000 volumes of books and several newspapers are waiting for readers on nearly 400 square meters of floor space.
The ground floor of the building is primarily for adult readers. The rich collection of handbooks is mainly used by students.
The children's library upstairs functions as a separate section. There are about 10,000 volumes of fairy tales, youth novels and educational works for children and adults to choose from. Frequent occupations; library lessons, storytelling, playhouses.

In the library writer-reader meetings, popular lectures, concerts are held regularly, and often informal conversations are organized with popular people and public figures.
The library's courtyard provides an excellent opportunity to organize various outdoor programs.
The local knowledge collection contains works primarily related to Miskolc and Diósgy?r. In addition to the books, there is a collection of manuscripts, small prints and articles published in local newspapers. 1400 diakocks, 800 photos cataloged preserve the image of the changing city, including the historical Diósgy?r.
The eponym of the library visited our region several times and remembers it in his reports. He refers to it as one of the special days of his life, when in July 1847 he made a trip to Diósgy?r and Hámor with his friends and acquaintances.
The lover of the Great Plain was deeply touched by the wonderful mountain landscape, the special formations, the sight of the "charming valley", and his Irish experiences with ecstasy: I have heard the region of Diósgy?r praised so long ago and so many times, and have never seen it. I've waited a long time, but I've found more. /Road Letters X./
A sense of admiration and respect permeated the poet also in the sight of the ruins of the castle of Diósgy?r, which used to be the castle of the sensitive soul princess, Mary. "If we can judge her soul from her place of residence, the royal lady was a poet's soul, and therefore, besides being ... a remembrance of respect."
The memories of this trip, the feelings and thoughts for the landscape inspired Sándor Pet?fi to write the poem Twilight.
